E-commerce websites

E-commerce websites for small shops with big personality.

We build custom e-commerce websites for small shops with a modest catalog, roughly under 25 products, that want a site that looks like their brand. Checkout runs on a secure hosted checkout from Shopify or Stripe, so card details never touch your site, and you manage products and orders in that platform's dashboard. E-commerce builds are quoted after a free consult, plus $200/month for e-commerce hosting and care.

01 / Who it's for

A small catalog, a distinctive look.

Big store templates are built for big catalogs. If you sell a handful of things you care about, a custom site can tell their story better, and load faster doing it. Our e-commerce builds are a good fit if:

  • You sell a modest catalog, roughly under 25 products
  • Your products have simple options, like size or color, not dozens of combinations
  • You want a site that looks like your brand, not like every other store template
  • You're happy managing products and orders in a dashboard like Shopify's or Stripe's
  • Selling online is part of your business, alongside a shop, a studio, shows or a menu

Think a band selling shirts and vinyl, a local maker selling candles or ceramics, a studio selling class spots, or a restaurant selling its hot sauce by the bottle.

02 / How checkout works

Your site shows the products. A trusted platform takes the payment.

We design the pages: product photos, descriptions, sizes and the story behind each piece. When a customer clicks "Buy," checkout is handled by a hosted checkout from a platform built for payments, such as Shopify's Buy Button or Stripe Checkout and Payment Links.

  • Card data never touches your site. The payment happens on the platform's secure checkout, not on our pages.
  • You run the store from the platform's dashboard. Products, prices and orders live there, and Shopify also tracks inventory.
  • Receipts and payouts come from the platform. Customers get their confirmation from Shopify or Stripe, and money goes to your account with them.

The site itself has no database, customer accounts or admin login. There's less to break, and less to keep patched.

03 / When a full store is better

We'll tell you if you've outgrown this.

This setup isn't for everyone, and we'd rather say so at the consult than after the build. A full Shopify store is probably the better choice if:

  • You have hundreds of products, or plan to soon.
  • Your products come in lots of combinations, like five sizes, eight colors and three materials.
  • You need customer accounts, subscriptions or wholesale pricing.
  • You add or remove products every week and want new product pages to appear on their own.

If that's you, we'll point you in that direction. If you'd like a custom-built site for the rest of your business alongside it, we can talk about that too.

04 / Getting found

Product pages people and search engines can read.

A small shop wins online by being specific. Someone searching for "handmade ceramic mugs" should land on your mugs. Every build includes the basics that help Google and AI search tools understand what you sell:

  • A fast site. Ours are custom-built with no page builder, so pages load quickly on any device, even on a slow mobile connection.
  • A real page for each product or collection, with a clear title, description and photos.
  • Structured data that tells search engines what each product is.
  • Google Search Console setup and a sitemap at launch, plus permanent redirects from your old site.

One honest note: rankings take time, and Google decides them. Your competition, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and how long you've been in business all play a part, so we won't promise you page one. Be wary of anyone who does. Google's own advice is that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking. What we can promise is that your website won't be what's holding you back.

05 / Pricing

What an e-commerce site costs.

E-commerce isn't one of our fixed-price packages. It's quoted after a free 20-minute consult, because the work depends on how many products you sell, how many options they have and which checkout platform fits. You get a fixed, itemized quote before any work starts.

  • The build: quoted in your proposal before any work starts. You pay 50% to start and the balance at launch.
  • E-commerce Care, $200/month: everything in our Hosting & Care plan (hosting, SSL, security updates, daily backups, uptime monitoring and a monthly report), plus a monthly test purchase, checks that checkout and buy buttons still work after platform changes, and up to two small product updates a month: adding or removing a product using your existing layout, with photos and text you supply. Content changes aren't included and are quoted separately.
  • Platform fees: your Shopify plan, Stripe's processing fees and similar costs are paid by you directly to that platform.

You own your domain and site files. Your products, orders and customer records stay in your own Shopify or Stripe account. See our standard website packages.

E-commerce website FAQ

How much does an e-commerce website cost?

E-commerce builds are quoted after a free 20-minute consult, because the price depends on how many products you sell and how you want checkout to work. Every e-commerce site runs on the $200/month E-commerce Care plan. Platform fees, like a Shopify plan or Stripe's processing fees, are paid by you directly to that platform.

Is it safe to take payments on my site?

Yes, because the card details never touch your site. When a customer checks out, the payment is handled by a hosted checkout from Shopify or Stripe. Those companies are built to handle card data, and our site never sees or stores it. The site itself has no database, customer accounts or admin login.

Can I add products and update prices myself?

Mostly, yes. With Shopify's Buy Button, product names, prices and stock come straight from your Shopify dashboard, so changes you make there show up on the site. With Stripe, you change prices and products in Stripe, but the price written on the product page is part of the site, so updating it is a small change we quote first. Our sites don't have an editor to log in to, so other changes to the site's own pages are quoted before we do them.

Should I just use Shopify instead?

Sometimes, yes, and we'll tell you. If you have hundreds of products, lots of variants, or you need things like customer accounts and subscriptions, a full Shopify store is usually the better choice. Our approach fits shops with a smaller catalog that want a site that looks and feels like their own.

Can I sell class sign-ups, tickets or gift cards?

Often, yes. A class, a workshop or a merch bundle can be set up as a product in the checkout platform, with its own buy button. Whether gift cards work the way you want depends on the platform and on where they'll be redeemed, so we'll talk it through at the consult.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I move my shop to a new site?

Not if the move is done carefully. If your current shop is on your own domain, we map every old page and product address to its new one with permanent (301) redirects before launch. Listings on a marketplace like Etsy stay where they are, and you can link them to your new site. See how a project works.
